Your first visit
What happens at your first appointment
A first appointment is an assessment, not a commitment. It usually takes between thirty and forty-five minutes.
Assessment and imaging
Please bring a recent OPG, a panoramic X-ray of the jaws, as it is needed for your first consultation. If you do not have one, call us and we will tell you where to have it taken. Dr Ullah examines the area of concern and will let you know if further imaging, such as a 3D cone beam scan, is needed.
Discussing the options
You are told what is going on, what the realistic options are including doing nothing, and what each one involves. Anaesthesia is part of that conversation: local anaesthesia in the clinic, or a general anaesthetic in hospital where that is clinically appropriate.
A written quote
You leave with a written quote setting out the fees and the relevant item numbers, so you can check it with your health fund. Fees vary with complexity and the number of stages, and nothing is booked on the day unless you want it to be.
Treatment and review
The procedure is scheduled at a time that suits, with written pre-operative and post-operative instructions. Review appointments are arranged locally, and we write back to your own dentist where they are involved in your care.

Serving Bankstown and South West Sydney
The Bankstown clinic is in the City Plaza, in the pedestrian centre of Bankstown, a short walk from the station and the bus interchange. Most patients travel from Condell Park, Punchbowl, Yagoona, Greenacre, Mount Lewis, Padstow, Revesby, Chester Hill and Bass Hill.
A wider group attends from the Liverpool and Fairfield corridors, including Green Valley, Cecil Hills, Prairiewood, Bossley Park and St Johns Park, where there are few specialist oral surgery options nearby. If you are travelling from that direction, our dedicated page for dental implants in South West Sydney sets out the distances and which clinic is usually closest.
Bankstown is also the more convenient of the three clinics for patients coming from the inner south west and the St George area, because the drive avoids the city.
Dr Ullah also consults at Kingswood and Orange. His full credentials, research and university role are set out on his profile page.
Common questions
Do I need a referral to see an oral surgeon in Bankstown?
No. You can book an appointment directly. If your dentist or doctor has written a referral, bring it with you along with any recent scans, because it helps with planning and avoids repeating imaging.
Where exactly is the clinic in Bankstown City Plaza?
The clinic is at 113 Bankstown City Plaza, in the pedestrian mall in the centre of Bankstown. It is a few minutes walk from Bankstown station and the bus interchange, with street parking nearby and the Marion Street car park a couple of minutes walk away.
Can wisdom teeth be removed under general anaesthesia?
Yes, where it is clinically appropriate. Wisdom teeth can be removed under local anaesthesia in the clinic or under general anaesthesia in hospital. Dr Ullah operates at Somerset Private Hospital. Which option suits you depends on the position of the teeth, your medical history and your own preference, and is decided together at the consultation.
What does treatment cost?
The initial consultation is $200 to $250. Fees depend on the procedure, its complexity and the number of stages involved, and whether treatment is carried out in the clinic or in hospital. A written quote with item numbers is provided after your examination, so you can check it with your health fund before deciding.
Does Medicare or my health fund cover oral surgery?
Medicare does not generally cover dental treatment. Some surgical procedures performed in hospital may attract a Medicare item number, and hospital cover through a private health fund may contribute to theatre and accommodation costs. The applicable item numbers are set out in your written quote so you can confirm your entitlement before treatment.
Is an interpreter available?
Tell us what language you would prefer when you book and we will do what we can to accommodate it. You are also welcome to bring a family member or friend to interpret and to help you remember what was discussed.
