Creating a Better Smile
Usually made of titanium, and surgically placed in the jawbone to support a dental prosthesis (crown/bridge/denture), this is the most natural and permanent way to replace a missing tooth or teeth. They’re generally placed 2-3 months after the tooth removal to ensure a better clinical outcome. Delaying placement can lead to bone loss, and might require additional bone graft surgery to replace the lost bone.

Advantages Of Dental Implants

- Option feels and looks natural
- Improves the appearance of ‘hollowed’ cheeks, which occurs after a tooth extraction
- Firmly secured into the jaw
- Do not require support from adjacent teeth
- Can be cleaned with normal routine at home, unlike dentures
What to Expect
Pre-prosthetic surgery, such as an extraction, sinus lift surgery, or bone grafting, may be necessary. Implants follow a two-step procedure that requires a teamwork approach. Planning includes taking a detailed medical history, studying your dentition, and a digital workup. The oral surgeon screws a single or multiple posts in the jaw under local or general anaesthesia.
Following the placement, a minimum of three months of healing is necessary to allow new bone growth around the posts (osseointegration), creating a stable foundation. Next, the crown, the tooth replica, is cemented to the post. Your regular dentist usually handles the final placement. If there are multiple missing teeth, the second step involves the fitting of a bridge (multiple teeth) or a denture to the posts.
Any invasive or surgical procedure may carry risks. Before moving forward, it is recommended that you seek a second opinion from an appropriately licensed medical professional.
