Procedures available at Kingswood

Every procedure below is performed by Dr Ullah. Some are carried out in the clinic under local anaesthesia and some in hospital under a general anaesthetic, depending on the case.

Your first visit

What happens at your first appointment

A first appointment is an assessment, not a commitment. It usually takes between thirty and forty-five minutes.

  1. Assessment and imaging

Please bring a recent OPG, a panoramic X-ray of the jaws, as it is needed for your first consultation. If you do not have one, call us and we will tell you where to have it taken. Dr Ullah examines the area of concern and will let you know if further imaging, such as a 3D cone beam scan, is needed.

  2. Discussing the options

You are told what is going on, what the realistic options are including doing nothing, and what each one involves. Anaesthesia is part of that conversation: local anaesthesia in the clinic, or a general anaesthetic in hospital where that is clinically appropriate.

  3. A written quote

You leave with a written quote setting out the fees and the relevant item numbers, so you can check it with your health fund. Fees vary with complexity and the number of stages, and nothing is booked on the day unless you want it to be.

  4. Treatment and review

The procedure is scheduled at a time that suits, with written pre-operative and post-operative instructions. Review appointments are arranged locally, and we write back to your own dentist where they are involved in your care.

Serving Penrith, St Marys and the Nepean

The Kingswood clinic sits on the Great Western Highway at the Penrith end of Kingswood, roughly two kilometres from Penrith CBD and directly opposite the Nepean hospital precinct. Most patients travel from Penrith, South Penrith, Jamisontown, Cambridge Park, Werrington, Claremont Meadows, St Marys and Glenmore Park, with a steady number coming down from Emu Plains, Blaxland and Springwood.

For patients further west, Kingswood is usually the closest specialist oral surgery option before the Blue Mountains. Patients from Richmond, Windsor and the Hawkesbury also attend here rather than travelling into central Sydney.

Being adjacent to the Nepean health precinct matters practically. Imaging, pathology and hospital services are close by, which keeps the number of separate trips down when a case needs a scan or a hospital admission.

Dr Ullah also consults at Bankstown and Orange. His full credentials, research and university role are set out on his profile page.

Common questions

Do I need a referral to see an oral surgeon in Kingswood?

No. You can book an appointment directly. If your dentist or doctor has written a referral, bring it with you along with any recent scans, because it helps with planning and avoids repeating imaging.

Where is the Kingswood clinic in relation to Penrith?

The clinic is on the Great Western Highway at Kingswood, about two kilometres east of Penrith CBD and a short distance from Nepean Hospital. Kingswood station is roughly a ten minute walk.

Can wisdom teeth be removed under general anaesthesia?

Yes, where it is clinically appropriate. Wisdom teeth can be removed under local anaesthesia in the clinic or under general anaesthesia in hospital. Dr Ullah operates at Somerset Private Hospital. Which option suits you depends on the position of the teeth, your medical history and your own preference, and is decided together at the consultation.

What does treatment cost?

The initial consultation is $200 to $250. Fees depend on the procedure, its complexity and the number of stages involved, and whether treatment is carried out in the clinic or in hospital. A written quote with item numbers is provided after your examination, so you can check it with your health fund before deciding.

Does Medicare or my health fund cover oral surgery?

Medicare does not generally cover dental treatment. Some surgical procedures performed in hospital may attract a Medicare item number, and hospital cover through a private health fund may contribute to theatre and accommodation costs. The applicable item numbers are set out in your written quote so you can confirm your entitlement before treatment.

How long is the wait for an appointment?

Appointment availability varies. Urgent problems such as facial swelling, uncontrolled bleeding or acute infection are triaged when you call, so phone the clinic rather than waiting for an online reply.
